PEASE, Louisa, Obituary

Mrs. Louisa Pease, wife of Samuel W. Pease, died at her home at the Five Corners, near Jasper, N.Y., April 1, 1889. Mrs. Pease was born in Baden, Germany, May 10, 1858. At the age of fourteen she came to this country with her father who settled in Elmira, N.Y., with seven motherless children. A few years after her marriage to Mr. Pease she embraced religion and joined the First M.E. Church at Elmira. Soon after moving to Jasper, N.Y., she was received into full connection with the M.E. church by Rev. J. Criswell. She has lived a faithful, consistent Christian life. Nearly three years ago she was attacked with disease of the throat. The vocal cords were paralized and after that she was not able to speak aloud. She was an intense sufferer, suffering much from hunger the last five weeks of her life, as she could not swallow food. She was the mother of five children. Recently her husband and two oldest children experienced religion, bringing much joy to her heart. As the end of life drew near she requested to see her family baptized. So on Friday, March 29, a few neighbors were invited to be present and the solomn service was performed by her pastor, Rev. E. G. W. Hall. It was a very touching scene. During the services the hymn, "Let me go where the saints are going, to the mansions of the blest," was sung. She seemed to think that her life work was done and she was anxious to depart and be with Jesus. On Wednesday, April 3, her funeral was attended by a large and sympathizing congregation. The text chosen was a part of Jer. XV:9. "Her sun is gone down while it is yet day." [Northern Christian Advocate, (Syracuse, NY), Thursday, May 2, 1889, P. 7]

WIXON, Margaret, Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Wixon was born August 9, 1804, near Newburg, N.Y., and died in the town of Urbana, Steuben Co., N.Y., April 28, 1889 in the 85th year of her age. About fifty years ago she and her husband, the late Avery Wixon, removed from Putnam Co., N.Y, and settled at Wixon Hill, near Hammondsport, where she has ever since resided, "They were the originators of the Wixon Hill Methodist class, now a part of the Hammondsport charge. She was converted in early life and joined the Baptist Church, but subsequently united with the Methodis Episcopal Church, of which she was an honored and lively member until her death, a period of nearly sixty years. "Mother" Wixon was spiritually alive person, active in prayer and revival meetings, and at home was ever on the alert to say words of encouragement to Christians and of exhortation to unconverted friends. Her house was the hospitable home of the itinerant preachers at all times for a half century. Highly respected by her neighbors, and dearly loved and now mourned for her by her surviving children, one son and two daughters, the memory of her Christian example will linger fragrant as the benediction that follows upon prayer.
