Church records are on of the richest sources for information on birth, marriage and death for the periods before the official registration of vital records.
Types of Church Records for Genealogy
Baptism and Christening Records: Baptism or christening records ofter list the name of the person baptized, the date and place of birth, and the date and place of baptism. For infant baptisms, parents names and place of residence were often listed as well.
Confirmation Records: Often provide the date of the event and sometimes the place, age, or other data.
Church member lists: Serve as a great substitute census.
Marriage Records: Provide the names of the bride and groom, and the date of marriage, some will provide ages, residences, birthplaces and religion, occupations, parents, etc.
Death Records: Provide name of deceased, date of death and sometimes the burial location, some will provide the ancestor's date of birth and birthplace.
