VANCIL, Technor, Obituary

T. Vancil is Dead.

After a long life of tempestuous activity and usefulness, Tichnor Vancil died on August 9th, 1902, at the state hospital for the insane, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Mr. Vancil came to Great Bend from Adams county, Illinois in 1872, and was therefore one of the very earliest settlers in Barton county. He was a man of very positive convictions, outspoken at all times, and a strong friend where he placed his friendship. He was a Union Veteran, and active in G.A.R. circles.

Failing health came on him a year or two ago, and for a long time he was cared for by his children here, but finally sent to the state institution for treatment.

He leaves four children, Chas. Vancil and Mrs. O.S. Bailey of this city, Mrs. H.E. Brining of Raymond, and Reuben Vancil; his wife died some years ago.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the 11st inst., from the residence of Chas. Vancil, in the 4th ward, the funeral being under the auspices of Pap Thomas Post G.A.R. [Barton County Democrat, (Great Bend, Kan.), Friday, August 15, 1902, p.5.]
