The State of Minnesota conducted a State census 1849, 1853, 1855, 1857, 1865 (all partial), 1875, 1885, 1895, and 1905. The origional copies of the Minnesota state census records are closed to public use. The earliest census listings for the area that later became Minnesota are found in the 1820 Michigan territorial census.
