California State Census Records include: 1788, 1790, 1796, 1797-1798, 1816, 1836, 1844 (all partial), 1852 (complete).
The 1852 Special Census is simular in format to the 1850 federal census except, instead of an estimate of the property valve, the previous residence of each individual is recorded. This allows the researcher to follow family migrations and possibly locate a family elsewhere in 1850 prior to their arrival in California. Columns were also included to indicate citizenship, race and foreign birth.
