Griffith's Valuation 1847-1864

The Origins Network have partnered with Ireland's best family history research and publishing company, Eneclann Ltd and The National Library of Ireland to make available the most complete Griffith's Primary Valuation of Ireland.

Because most of the census records for the nineteenth century were destroyed in 1922, when the Public Records Office was burned down, Griffith's Valuation represents the most comprehensive survey of households available for the period. For this reason, it is a principal tool of genealogists and local historians.

Unlike previous attempts to index or publish Griffith's Valuation, this will be the first time the entire survey has been published since it was originally issued in the 19th century. This edition contains all the original publications, revisions and amended versions that were published over the 17 years it took to complete the valuation. No library in any country in the world, including Ireland, has a full set of Griffith's Valuation. So for the first time users of the new web edition can be sure that they have all the source material at hand in one place. Users are to search a complete database of personal and place names, and then access scanned images of the original published pages.

Boyd's Marriage Index

The Origins Network Search Boyd's Marriage Index

The Boyd's Marriage Index is an index to English marriages taken from copies of parish marriage registers, Bishop's Transcripts and marriage licences, for the period 1538 to 1840 (when statutory registration began). It was principally the work of Percival Boyd, MA, FSA, FSG (1866-1955) and his staff. It was made at his expense between 1925 and 1955, and has since been expanded.

All English counties are covered, none completely (some, eg. Cambridge, are almost complete), and the periods indexed vary according to the copies of records which were readily available. Registers from over 4,300 parishes have been indexed, a total of over 7 million names.

The index is particularly important to anyone researching East Anglian ancestry for not only is the coverage almost complete (over 95% of all the ancient parishes are included), but little of this data is available anywhere else (for example, the International Genealogical Index has very limited coverage of this area).
