WHITE, James A., Obituary

In Quindaro, Kansas, Sept. 20th, Mr. James A. White, formerly of Girard, Pa.

Mr. White was born in Argyle, Washington Co., N. Y., in 1799, making his age at the time of his death, seventy-six years and eighteen days. He was a brother of Geo. W. White, Esq., deceased. He removed to Girard in the fall of 1873, making his residence there of only two years duration, although the infirmities of age prevented his engaging in the various enterprises of the day, still, he will be remembered by all who knew him, for his general intelligence, his uniform, courteous and cheerful spirit, as being a firm advocate of temperance and good order, speaking evil of no one, but having a kind word for all, and willing rather to sacrifice his personal feelings, and his own financial interests, than promote discord among his fellow men. Thus, he daily manifested the principals of the Christian religion that had controlled his actions from early life, although he did not openly profess to be a Christian until his seventy-first year, when he united with the Episcopal Church where he remained in good standing until his death. With a firmer hope in Christ and fully resigned to the will of his Heavenly Father. "Like a shock of corn "fully ripe" he was gathered to his rest. Truly "the memory of the just is blessed." [The Granville Sentinel, (Granville, NY), December 17, 1875]
