BENEDICT, Ann Obituary

In Watertown, N. Y. on the 7th inst. Mrs. Ann Benedict, aged 40, relict of Amos Benedict, Esq. Mrs. B. was the daughter of Capt. James Stone, and a native of this village. Although it is several years since she resided with us, her friends and acquaintance never have forgot the lovely character she sustained, nor ceased to admire the tender, delicate, and affectionate disposition she manifested, her unyielding principles of integrity; and the discriminating powers of her mind, and above all her exemplary christian character. HAWLEY, Sophia Obituary

In Torringforde, 22d ult. after an illness of only 17 hours, Miss Sophia Eliza Hawley, daughter of Dr. Orestes K. Hawley, of Austinburgh, Ohio. Miss H. had but recently consented to seperate herself from the land of her birth, and the endearments of the paternal roof, to spend a few months with her relatives and friends in this state. Her father arrived at the place where she died but two or three days before her death; and was expecting in a few days to return with her, in happiness and health to the bosom of his family. But, melancholy to tell! he came only in time to rejoice for one short hour in the gratulations of parental and _llial love, and the next - with a bleeding and almost breaking heart - to close her dying eyes. On the 24th Dr. H. left this State for Ohio, conveying with him for burial, his daughter's remains. [Litchfield County Post, (Litchfield, Conn.), February 2, 1827, P.3.]

ROGERS, Anna Obituary

In Exeter, N. H. Miss Anna Rogers, in the 78th year of her age. She was the daughter of the Rev. Daniel Rogers, of that town, upon whose tomb stone is placed the following inscription.

"Sacred to the memory of the Rev. Daniel Rogers pastor of a church gathered in Exeter, in 1748, who died, Dec. 9, 1785, aged 78 years. He had been many years tutor in Harvard College, was a pious, faithful minister of Jesus Christ, and a worthy son of the Rev. John Rogers, pastor of the first church in Ipswich, who died, Dec. 28, 1745, in his 80th year.

"He was a son of John Rogers, of the same place, physician and preacher of God's word, and president of Harvard College, who died, July 2, 1684, aged 54 years.

"He was the elder son of the Rev. Nathaniel Rogers, who came from England, in 1636, settled at Ipswich, Colleage pastor of the Rev. Nathaniel Ward, and died July 2, 1655, aged 57 years.

"He was the son of the Rev. John Rogers, a famous minister of God's Word at Dedham, in England, who died, Oct. 18, 1639, aged 67 years.

"He was grandson of John Rogers of London, prebendary of St. Sepulchre's, and reader of Divinity, who was burnt at Smithfield, Feb. 14, 1555, first martyr in Queen Mary's reign.

"Thou martyr'd saint, and all ye holy train, O be your honour'd names ne'er read in vain! May each descendant catch your hallow'd fire, And all your virtues all their breats inspire; Prophets, like you, in long succession rise, Burning and shining, faithful, firm and wise, And millions be their crown beyond the skies!"
