KIMBROUGH, Fannie, Obituary

Died, at Rehoboth on the 2nd inst., Miss Fannie Kimbrough.

This slight tribute of respect and affection, is to the memory of one, who, in the bloom of youth, was just entering the morning of life, being in her eighteenth year. Scarcely had the roses reached their full maturity of beauty and health, ere the hand of disease touched and they were doomed to immature decay. Scarcely had the heart of a long orphanage been awakened to the enjoyment of life's pleasure ere death called to demand the awful tribute. We did not think so soon to weep the loss of my young friend; but the "insatiate archer ever loves a shining mark,". The character of her in whose memory these humble and imperfect lines are traced, was possessed of that purity of thought, and loveliness of disposition, which sone fort from her every action, and secured for her an affection that could only have terminated with her life, and which will fasten an undying root in the warm and noble heart of the loved one, who has been so suddenly visited with this most severe and have sorrow. While you shed a tear of sorrow at the loss of your young friend, mourn not as those who have no hope, for as we believe that Christ died and rose again, so also those who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

What a solemn admonition have we from her early death? A voice from the tomb speaks, "Be ye also ready." May her bereaved friends meekly submit to a wise Providence in this sad misfortune, and freely make known their heart felt griefs to Him who hath said, "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted."

A Friend. [The Times-Argus, (Selma, Ala), Jan 2, 1874]
